Let me start out by saying I am not a racist. I try my very best to always judge people individually … based on their actions, their character, their personal integrity, and how they treat me. I have had black friends, Lebanese friends, Korean friends, Chinese friends, American Indian friends, and other friends of many different races and nationalities I did not even know about. The popular new idea among many liberals (especially from Minnesota) is that all Whites are racist … they can’t help it. It is part of their ancestry. Now … that is a racist idea if I ever heard one!!
I remember when former President, Bill Clinton, was labeled “the first Black President” by the liberal press! Hmmm! What was that all about?
So … what about Obama? Is he the really true first black President? If so, is being black simply a matter of skin color?
Should I actually be a true racist (according to Ayn Rand‘s definition) and judge Obama … strictly on the basis of his 50% black ancestry? Well … I guess that would actually make him kind of gray … because he is only half black.
Or, should I actually judge him based on his failed policies, corrupt political dealings, unconstitutional shadow-government-based administration, and wanton wasting of my tax dollars, etc. … and risk being called a racist by liberal race-baiters?
Actually, I think I agree with a post I read on a blog by UT Professor, Harold Black … who from what I can tell is a very intelligent black conservative … that says that Obama is black simply as a matter of political convenience.
If we are supposed to judge folks by their actions, character, habits, etc. …. this is really not too much of a stretch. It is only if we judge Obama racially … on his color … that we have a racial problem.
Wasn’t he, after all, raised by his white grandparents? Didn’t he go to mostly white private schools? Didn’t he graduate from Columbia and Harvard? When did he actually become black? Perhaps,as Harold Black says, it was when he decided to run for political office. While I disagree that Obama is very smart … he is indeed very clever. Those two qualities are not the same. Obama probably did figure out that being black was his best chance to be elected to political office.
So for Barack Obama, I think I agree … his new-found blackness is simply a matter of convenience.
Is Obama a friend of black people. Unemployment among blacks has sky-rocketed under Obama. And … who are Obama’s people anyway? Are they Bernanke, Geithner, Romer Axelrod, Plouffe, Volcker, Emanuel, Gibbs, and Carney? Not a black person among them I can see. I do not think Obama is a friend to black people. In fact, truthfully, many black people have been adversely affected by Obama’s socialist ideology-driven policies. There are many black people I really respect like Alan West, Condaleeza Rice, Clarence Thomas, Alan Keyes, and Hallerin Hilton Hill who would, I think agree, with that premise. I do suspect that … if Obama were white … we would be seeing many blacks rioting in the street.
It is kind of funny in away! As Mr. Black noted, you simply do not find many blacks in key positions in Obama’s administration! President Bush did have Colin Powel and Condaleeza Rice. I had great respect for Colin Powell as a military man … until he became a politician, fell under Obama’s spell, and switched allegiance. Condaleeza Rice is one smart lady and a true credit to her race … that is if you measure her based on intelligence, character, work ethic, and personal integrity. I suppose race baiters would call her a Race Traitor, an Auntie Tom, or maybe an Oreo … who knows?
But wait … you say; “Obama has lots of black supporters!”
Well yes! I know he does … or at least it seems that way on the surface. Race-baiters like Jesse Jackson, Maxine Waters, Van Jones, and Al Sharpton (and their followers) support Obama. But these guys also know that their wealth and their personal success are closely tied to keeping the un-washed masses brain-washed and drinking the cool aid! This is accomplished by attacking the so-called one percent (while … trying to keep you from waking up and remembering they are actually members of “one percent” group) and, of course, the republicans.
Playing this race card is simply a means to shift the focus; an attempt to lay the blame on successful, hard-working Americans … people who it is easy to be jealous of; rather than on the democrats and Obama … who are busy growing government, destroying jobs, and preventing needed reforms that would spur economic growth and a recovery that would benefit all people.
I think in another time and in another place; some blacks (like Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton) would have been calling Obama … the Oreo.
