Chris Harper-Mercer, the Roseburg, Oregon gunman, was shot to death in a shootout with Roseburg police so we cannot ask him what would cause him to do what he did, but his social media activities can help give us a clue as to what motivated this young man to commit such a heinous act.
It has been reported that among the details authorities have allegedly found was one detail the left-wing media (and President Barack Obama) doesn’t want the public to know. Chris Harper-Mercer had a MySpace account on which he was friends with an apparent Islamic terror supporter.
The Daily Beast has reported that Harper-Mercer’s MySpace account on the now mostly defunct social media site included a contact, Mahmoud Ali Ehsani. Ehsani had pictures of “Mujahedeen” from around the world on his account, as well as a post in which he wrote “kill the Jews.”
Harper-Mercer’s MySpace page reportedly contained praise for terrorists as well. However, his terrorist heroes were admittedly from different ideology … his page had material glorifying members of the Irish Republican Army.
A blog linked to Harper-Mercer also contained praise for Roanoke shooter Vester Lee Flanagan, saying that people “like him have nothing left to live for.” Harper-Mercer is quoted as saying:
On an interesting note, I have noticed that so many people like him are all alone and unknown, yet when they spill a little blood, the whole world knows who they are.
A man who was known by no one, is now known by everyone. His face splashed across every screen, his name across the lips of every person on the planet, all in the course of one day. Seems the more people you kill, the more you’re in the limelight.”
The Washington Times has reported that Harper-Mercer’s shooting should be classified as a hate crime, because he specifically targeted Christians during his rampage.
Stacey Boylan, the mother of one of the witnesses to the shooting, told reporters that he asked potential victims whether or not they were Christian. He would have them stand up and then he would reply, “Good, because you’re a Christian, you’re going to see God in just about one second.” And then he would shoot and killed them.
It goes without saying that President Obama mentioned little or none of this in his speech on the matter last night, choosing to instead blame the entire incident on guns. His lapdog press, as would be expected, went right along with him and refused to report anything that contradicted Obama’s spin … especially the suspect’s possible link to a supporter of Islamic terrorism.
I really do miss the days when you could say the press was objective, impartial and you could believe what they reported.
A comment was aimed at me the other day beginning with the words, “You republicans …….!” Some people just do not get it at all. It is no longer about Republican versus Democrat. It is about the destruction of America!
I am not a Republican although I was for a period of time. The Republican Party has let me down too many times now. Can you tell me what the Republican Party stands for? I can! It stands for nothing. They make promises to constituents to get elected and then cave on those same issues at the slightest pressure from the White House, the Democrats, or the press. And, they do this despite having been given a majority in both Houses of Congress by the voters. So either they suffer from completely deflated balls or they are RINOS. It really doesn’t matter at this point. I know there are a few truly conservative Republicans trying to do something to protect Americans but they are hamstrung and attacked by their own party. This is why I am no longer a Republican.
I can certainly see what the Democratic Party stands for today. It is obvious if you watch the news. The current Democratic Party stands for Planned Parenthood selling aborted baby parts, making terrible deals with our enemies while abandoning our allies, giving illegal aliens free rein to steal from, rape and murder American citizens. You think Trump is wrong? He may not be the candidate of choice for me, but at least he speaks the truth. The murder of Kathryn Steinle on the Embarcadero in San Francisco by an illegal alien is only the most recent example of a crime committed by an illegal alien. Laura Wilkerson’s 18-year-old son was brutally tortured and murdered by a classmate he had offered a ride home. The classmate would have been one of Obama’s “Dreamers.”
During testimony before the Congressional Judiciary Committee by parents of victims and Texas State Officials, it was revealed that illegal aliens have been involved in thousands of crimes in Texas alone, including nearly 3,000 homicides. According to the analysis conducted by the Texas Department of Public Safety, illegal aliens committed 611,234 unique crimes in Texas from 2008 to 2014, including thousands of homicides and sexual assaults. The report describes an alien crime wave of staggering proportions exacerbated by federal officials unwilling to enforce immigration laws. The Texas DPS report says well over 100,000 individual criminal aliens have been booked into Texas jails.
Let’s see. In light of this illegal alien crime wave and increasing terrorist attacks on American soil, the Democratic Party stands for disarming law-abiding American citizens. They also stand for ignoring the rule of law and dismantling or circumventing the U.S. Constitution, dismantling our military, destroying our economy while fudging unemployment numbers, and subjecting U.S. Citizens to being ruled by the United Nations.

Luckily, being a member of the Kardashian Clan, she had enough money to feminize her new looks and augment her breasts. Or this whole thing could have been pretty ugly
Personally, I think a lot of liberal women actually do not like men. They want girls with penises; you know … the whole metro-sexual thing! Anyway, As I understand it, Caitlin is keeping her penis. This is probably a smart move … just in case she later decides she is really a boy again and needs to change back. This is a real possibility should the Kardashian Clan need a new publicity stunt to bolster their sagging revenue streams. I am not sure penis re-attachment surgery is available yet, but maybe if she kept it on ice? It is probably is a much safer bet just to keep it attached for now.
All joking aside, I am really happy for Caitlin (formally known as Bruce) Jenner. If he is happier as a she, who the heck am I to say he can’t be a she. As a conservative and a true believer in individual rights … more power to him or her. I am just not really buying into the great American hero spin being trumpeted by the media. So ESPN awarded Caitlin Jenner the Arthur Ashe Courage Award. So what? It doesn’t really mean a thing. Anyone can create an award and give it to whomever they damn well please. I do think it is about as silly as Barack Obama getting awarded the Nobel Peace Prize for things they hoped he would do in the future. We see how well that all worked out.
On another note, last Thursday, former Texas Governor Rick Perry announced his 2016 candidacy for president.
Standing with Rick Perry during his announcement were two other men. U.S. Navy SEAL Marcus Luttrell, of “Lone Survivor” fame, and his twin brother, Morgan. The Luttrells, who are from Texas, have gotten close to Perry over the years and Marcus is known to have a close, almost father-son, type of relationship with Perry.
It is a real case-in-point that the media representatives present did not recognize the two men standing behind Perry. How is that even possible? It is a real commentary on the current state of journalism, or lack there of, in this country. They certainly rushed to recognize what a great hero Caitlin Jenner is and I bet they could pick her out of any crowd. O.K., So maybe they might not know who Morgan Luttrell is, but Marcus Luttrell? Are you kidding me? Four clueless left-wing journalists revealed via their tweets that they had absolutely no idea who Marcus Luttrell was.
1) Ellen Mitchell. This is particularly scary to me because she is a Washington-based reporter for Inside Defense, covering Army helicopters, UAS, radios, vehicles and TRADOC.
2) Katie Halper. Another scary one because she is a history teacher at The Dalton School; besides being a progressive, comedian / blogger at Salon, The Nation, Feministing & Comedy Central.
3) Judd Legum. Is Editor in Chief for ThinkProgress and the Senior Vice President for Communications at American Progress so it is not surprising that he would not recognize a real hero.
4) George Zornick. Prior to joining The Nation, George was Senior Reporter/Blogger for ThinkProgress.org. He worked as a researcher for Michael Moore’s SiCKO and as an Associate Producer on “The Media Project” on the Independent Film Channel.

The priorities in this country are so screwed up as it is. A transgender person like Bruce Jenner is a hero. But someone sacrifices their college scholarship and their time to join the military and they don’t get nearly as much recognition.
We’re missing the overall point of what this country was founded upon, collective sacrifice for the greater good. The fantasy of America is what we focus on. Caitlyn Jenner, a multimillionaire and the Kardashians are the ones shaping our reality. What happened to the soldier who deployed his 12th tour in Afghanistan, that’s my definition of a real hero.
The usual hero is a day-to-day person, who does it out of a sense of purpose. They don’t do it for Instagram likes or retweets. I’m not surprised they don’t know who Luttrell is, our priorities are so messed up in this country.
Those reporters represent a smaller portion of America that is more engaged in what sells than anything else. And a Navy SEAL war hero doesn’t sell so well anymore. For them to not know who Luttrell is a perfect snapshot of what the country’s greater priorities are. Because I guarantee if Perry had the Kardashians standing next to him, everyone would be able to identify those people.

Obama goes on about job creation and how his administration will focus on that area of the economy now. He mentions we need more teachers, police, and firefighters … his patented buzzwords. Why is it always teachers, police, and firefighters?
Obama always mentions teachers, police, and firefighters … because those are buzz words that invoke an emotional response. What parent does not want good teachers for their children? How can you not feel a twinge after hearing a plug for police and firefighters … especially after 9/11. Everyone wants to feel safe … right! But let’s be honest here … shall we? Don’t we also need engineers, construction workers, oil rig hands, lineman, computer technicians, data analysts, electricians, and machinists, etc.
And, just how many teacher, police, and firefighters will Obama actually hire. These are actually municipal jobs. The vast majority of teachers, police, and firefighters are hired by municipalities …. and funded by tax dollars. This means higher taxes. I am all for good teachers …. and more police and firefighters (IF THEY ARE ACTUALLY NEEDED)! But should this be the central focus of a federal jobs creation program? I really don’t think so! For Obama … who will actually hire NO teachers, police, or firefighters … these are simply code words for more federal bureaucracy!
Can I ask you a question and get an honest answer? What do we really have to show for that $1 trillion stimulus package Obama bragged about … at least until it failed? You know … all those shovel ready jobs he talked about. Where are they? We spent almost $1 trillion ($870 billion) in tax payer dollars … what exactly did we get? Show me … point to some real jobs! Can you? Are you better off? A few of Obama’s bundler buddies got very rich by embezzling tax payer dollars, in the form of government guaranteed loans … via their “green energy company” scams!
Actually, here is where some additional Obama “stimulus” money went:
The Agriculture Department’s Rural Housing Service likely loaned hundreds of millions of dollars to ineligible borrowers as part of President Obama’s stimulus package, a report by federal watchdogs has revealed.
The stimulus earmarked more than $1 billion for RHS home loans in rural communities. According to the Ag Department’s Inspector General, up to $292.3 million of those loans may have financed ineligible projects, or gone to borrowers that did not meet the loan program’s requirements due to their potential inability to repay the loans.
The IG examined a sample of 100 RHS stimulus loans, and found that 17 had been extended to borrowers who “(1) had no history of stable and dependable income, (2) had a credit history that did not indicate the ability and willingness to repay a loan, or (3) did not meet repayment ability guidelines.”
Six loans in the report’s sample financed properties that did not meet the program’s eligibility requirements. Some “lacked sufficient documentation that the homes were decent, safe, and sanitary,” according to the report.
The IG extrapolated with 95% certainty that between 1,111 and 2,433 loans totaling between $124.3 million and $292.3 were made to ineligible borrowers or projects. The report faulted RHS personnel for the oversight.
Just more vote buying by the Obama administration. Saying one thing … doing another …. while the liberal media covers for them; or ignores the facts and just spreads the manure being shovelled out by the White House Press Secretary. It is just more Obamanipulation!
But hey …. the Obama’s are really very good at that. Michelle Obama had a great job in Chicago making $375,000 per year doing hospital outreach work. Actually, it was a non-job … Michelle Obama rarely ever had to show up! And can you guess what she did for them … she supported and implemented policies that made sure indigents and people who could not afford their medical care … got pushed off to other hospitals. Now that’s compassion for you!
Do you remember how President Obama promised the American people, “If you like your health care plan, you’ll be able to keep your health care plan, period. No one will take it away, no matter what.” Surprise, Surprise: the Obama Administration now admits that this isn’t actually the case! Now it seems that, for all practical purposes, a majority of group health plans will lose their grandfather status by 2013. Over time, as more Americans lose their existing health insurance, any new plan would naturally be subject to Obamacare’s overreaching regulations, mandates, and violations of religious liberty. This is just one more example of Obama’s endless stream of broken promises.
You know … Obama was so quick to condemn Zimmerman in the Trayvon Martin case … before anyone even knew the facts. Now, that is real leadership for you! You would think, then, that he would be equally quick to condemn horrible acts of violence perpetrated against the other people he is also the so-called “president” of. Yet he seems strangely silent over:
an 18-year-old Chicago boy named Alton L. Hayes III, who, along with a younger accomplice, viciously attacked a 19-year-old boy with a tree branch simply because he was white. Hayes, who is black, said he was upset over the Trayvon Martin case.
an angry, race-fueled mob who beat a man by the name of Matthew Owens. Owens is now in critical condition while the suspects still remain at large. Reports say that twenty people, all black Americans, attacked Matthew Owen on his front porch with “brass buckles, paint cans and anything they could get their hands on.” One of the attackers was overheard saying: ”Now that’s justice for Trayvon.”
And lastly, there is the horrible story of a white, 13-year-old boy who was walking home from school when he was accosted by two black teens. They chased the boy to his house but barred him from entering. According to reports, one of the suspect’s grabbed a red gasoline can saying: “This is what you deserve. You get what you deserve white boy,” dousing the boy with gasoline and setting him ablaze.
Were is the outcry from President Obama, Al Sharpton, and Jesse Jackson?! Why so silent? I guess maybe they are all busy at strategy meetings with the New Black Panthers. Maybe it is just more Obamanipulation … and Obama really is playing his version of “the race card.”

Obama’s presidential campaign is picking up steam and we can already see how ugly it is going to get. Not only has Obama has broken every campaign promise he made. but his policies have steadily worsened an already bad economy. They have done so so efficiently that one wonders if it could be “on purpose.” While spouting catchy slogans that too many Americans fall for hook, line, and sinker … he attacks one American ideal after another; religious freedom, free trade, property rights, the middle class, hard work rewarded with success (and not punitive, ever-increasing taxation), and freedom of choice, etc. His minions giggle gleefully as he give $15 million to a Canadian solar company that employees two (yes … that is correct … “2”) employes on its site in Nevada and calls it an investment in “green energy.” One wonders what underhanded task was performed, or how much money was bundled by that company, for him?
Our first “Gay President” has shown he has a true gift for propaganda (spreading bull shit) and that too many Americans have become so lazy in their thinking and work ethic … that they gleefully jump on his socialist band wagon like a bunch a crack whores looking for their next fix. It is absolutely disgusting!!
This country is being dragged by the nose into a downward spiral leading to a ” Greek or France” like economy …. and far too many Americans are blindly skipping along in tune; rather than kicking and screaming. Is this because Obama promises them free “stuff” that in reality he can never provide because the country simply cannot afford it? There will still be millions of un-insured under Obamacare. The cost for Obamacare has already been revised by the CBO from the original estimate of approx. $900 Billion to $1.8 Trillion … and it will continue to grow. The programs you mention; Social Security, Medicare, and Medicaid are, themselves, on the verge of collapse; therefore taxes will skyrocket to subsidise them and yet another massive, unsustainable entitlement bureaucratic-nightmare called Obamacare.
Doctors are fleeing the medical field or making decisions to not accept government-based healthcare plans because reimbursement levels are already too low and shrinking. (I know this because I have several friends who are doctors … and no they are not greedy monsters. They are normal folks, whose business costs are skyrocketing because of massive paperwork involved with regulatory compliance forced on them by Obamacare).
Enrollment in medical school is down because not too many students can afford to take on such massive debt in the form of the student loans required to complete a medical degree program … for the dwindling return on their investment. Doctor’s work very hard for their degrees (typically for at least 7 years) and incur a great deal of debt achieving it. To begrudge them a higher salary than folks who, say, decided to flip hamburgers for a living or just go on the public dole … is pretty short-sighted and very small-minded!
Tell me … do you begrudge George Soros, Warren Buffett, AL Gore, John Kerry, or George Clooney their massive incomes?
And yes … even those dastardly, despicable, racist, hate-mongering, tea bagging, slutty, conservatives (who hate autistic children, the mentally challenged, and who want old people to die starving in the streets) want American citizens to have access to affordable, transportable, quality health insurance. The problem is that Obamacare will not provide that. It will only bankrupt the country.
I am not a big fan of Ron Paul. I don’t believe Ron Paul is actually a true conservative. I like some of his domestic positions, but he is not truly a Constitutionalist. If you go back to Ron Paul’s early years and his influences, they include a list of folks who detested conservatives and the U.S. Constitution. Ron Paul mostly uses the U.S. Constitution as a hammer to bash all other candidates on the head. His foreign policy is to the left of even Barack Obama’s and I feel would be disastrous for this country and the rest of the world. Isolationist-based policies have indirectly caused several wars including World War I, World War II, and The Vietnam Conflict. All Americans … democratic and republican … liberal and conservative … want access to affordable, quality healthcare. The problem with Obamacare is that it cannot and will not give us that; and in truth … it was never designed to. Obamacare was never intended to reduce healthcare costs, and in act, it will increase healthcare cost substantially. Obamacare was designed to force all Americans to have government approved health insurance by 2014, or be fined by their government. Which, despite claims to the contrary by the Washington Post, amounts to a government take over of healthcare. That is why Obama, Pelosi, Reid, and company, rushed to have it passed before it was read and understood, and before anyone really knew what was hidden in it. Two years ago, the CBO (Congressional Budget Office) told America Obamacare would cost the U.S. taxpayers about $900 billion. It just recently revised that cost to be $1.8 trillion! Is anyone … besides the Cool Aid Drinkers … surprised by this?
It is incomprehensible to me how such an Obamanation of legislation could be passed without even trying a few simpler measure that have been discussed during previous years that could have helped lower healthcare costs in America … without created a huge new bumbling bureaucracy.
The liberal elites, such as Obama and his cronies, want to blame the private sector and capitalism for rising healthcare and premiums costs. They count on the fact that you will not do your homework and will simply accept their claim at face value. Why then, is it, that I can purchase auto insurance from an auto insurance company in Hawaii because they offer a better premium rate … but must by a health insurance policy from a company based in Tennessee? Why is the market closed off? Is this free market capitalism? No it is not! Then how can liberals truthfully blame free market capitalism? They cannot … unless you drank the Cool Aid!
The fact is that the federal government has no legal authority to regulate health insurance rates. Insurance, including health insurance, is regulated by the states. The McCarran-Ferguson Act, which preserves the principle of state regulation of insurance, was not amended by the Patient Protection and Affordable Care Act, the law under which the new rule on health insurance rates was issued. So what is going on here? With no regulatory authority at all, HHS is trying to bully or shame health insurers into reducing their rate increases. Again, the whole effort is an incredible exercise by Obama’s administration in power-grabbing!
The Heritage Founation lists 10 other negative outcomes from Obamacare:
New taxes, penalties, and fees will discourage businesses from growing, lowering economic growth by $706 billion and costing 800,000 jobs.
The Federal government will force the 18 million of the uninsured to go under Medicaid, while others must accept another government program. Despite this, millions will still remain uninsured.
Each year, $125 million will go towards subsidizing school-based health centers and programs to reduce teen pregnancy, with no requirement to reduce abortions. Parents won’t know what services their children will receive.
Half of those on Medicare Advantage will lose this coverage thank to rate increases.
Health care costs will rise thanks to $47 billion in new taxes on drug companies and medical device makers.
Nearly two-thirds of doctors are considering abandoning any kind of government-sponsored health care insurance, stating that regulations are too high and reimbursement too low.
By forcing States to accept federally-mandated health insurance, the Act violates States’ rights.
Small businesses, the drivers of new job growth, will be especially penalized by $52 billion in new taxes and new IRS reporting requirements.
Despite $500 billion in new taxes, Obamacare will increase the deficit by $500 billion over the next 10 years.
The simple reality is that Obamacare is a very poorly written law with vast consequences for all Americans. Obamacare’s so-called exchanges will ultimately increase insurance rates, tax American employers and threaten the viability of our private insurance market. Massive government subsidies will be required to keep ObamaCare afloat and that will require even more tax revenue. Obamacare will also simply create a massive new entitlement program that we, as a nation, cannot afford.
For me, as an American citizen, the Individual Mandate is the scariest part of the whole mess. If Obamacare stands, we as a nation have set the precedent for the government to force individuals into contracts with services providers for services they do not want. This does, in fact, violate the U.S. Constitution and is a big step down the pathway to tyranny. No we all know ho little the U.S. Constitution means to Obama, his cronies, and his Cool Aid drinking followers, but what about the rest of you Americans … are you going to just sit back and let him destroy this country and will you take a stand. This next election is critical. I now we all have our favorite candidate … but only one candidate can be the nominee! I lean to toward New Gingrich personally, but things are not looking to good for him right now. So will I go home and pout if Mitt Romney, Rick Santorum, or Ron Paul get the nomination? Will I take my toys and go home? Nope … this election is way to important for such childish games. Any of the fielded republican candidates is a real measurable improvement over Barack Hussein Obama … and I will vote for any one of them to remove this domestic American enemy from office …. and in truth … I would not even have to hold my nose to do it!
I was on another blog the other day and spotted a new “nick name for our peerless leader! We should all call him “The Teflon President,” because in the American drive-by media … absolutely nothing sticks to him.
I seem to remember that during the 2008 presidential election, Barack Obama promised to lead the most transparent administration in U.S. history. However, he has failed to deliver on his promise. In fact, quite the opposite is true. The anointed One’s administration’s approach to governing is to: Choose or create a problem, stridently proclaim the urgent need to address it, propose hurried legislation, and then try to ram it through Congress before congress or people have a chance to read it or appreciate the exact effect it will have on the nation.
Remember the Fannie Mae/Freddie Mac bailout? The truth is that the Community Reinvestment Act of 1977 was a democratic bill signed by Jimmy Carter and enhanced by Bill Clinton (who had the Justice Department rewrite it). Put in the hands of crooks like Barney Frank, Democrat and Chris Dodd, Democrat (who should both be sharing a cell with Jack Abramoff); it forced banks to make mortgage loans to people who simply could not afford them …. or face government sanctions and violent protests by ACORN members outside their banking offices. So … while banks are not without blame for the housing market collapse , the lion’s share of the blame truthfully belongs to the Democrats. Well, it now seems the U.S. government’s mortgage monster is again in trouble. Fannie Mae lost money in the fourth quarter and is asking the federal government for nearly $4.6 billion in aid to cover its deficit. But never fear … Obama says the economy is improving!
Recently, Obama gave a speech at an SEIU (another flavor of ACORN) gathering where he raised $80,000,000 for his campaign fund. Amid cheers and praises and loud chants of “YES WE CAN'” , Obama spewed forth a record number of lies and half-truths! Obama knows many Americans will not put forth any effort to check his claims and will just accept them as fact because he spoke them. After all, he is the Chosen One … descended from on High to leads us to Amertopia, where we are all equally miserable and slaves to an Omniscient, Omnipotent Government (the liberal left’s PC version of God). Obama is really very skilful at telling lies and half-truths that sound good enough to be true. After all, the Cool Aid drinkers will believe anything he spews forth and too many others are just too plain lazy to check the facts! You have to dig a little deeper to get at the truth and that takes work … something the Obama administration discourages regularly.
And lo and behold, … our Messiah has finally gotten around to coming up with a budget (Can you say … “re-election year”); which, much to my surprise, does not cut any real spending …. and in fact, increases our deficit spending and raises all sorts of taxes (both direct and indirect). Oh … and did I mention that the interest on my student loans (taken over by Obama’s administration) is about to double … from 3.2% to 6.4%! Yay! I am not sure which makes me happier …. that … or $6-a-gallon gasoline! Anyway, here are some prime examples from Obama’s proposed budget to chew on:
Obama Budget Claim: $850 billion in savings from ending wars. $230 billion of those savings will be used on highways.
The Fact: There is no direct peace savings. The money that was used for the wars was borrowed money. If they are to spend it on something else (assuming they can end the wars) they would have to continue to borrow money.
Obama Budget Claim: Taxes on the rich will be increased, breaks for the oil and gas industry’s will end, some spending programs the president is willing to sacrifice, will be cut.
The Fact: There has been no tax increases passed, and any effort to do so will be inevitably blocked by republicans. As it stands right now, the “tax the rich” narrative is nothing more then a campaign promise if he gets re-elected.
Obama Budget Claim: The U.S. will see good GDP growth. The Budget predicts that it will reach 4 percent in 2014 and 4.2 in 2015.
The Fact: Basing a budget on speculative growth is irresponsible. Looking back, the White House GDP projection for 2011 was 2.7 percent. It was actually 1.7 falling a percentage point. For 2012, the White House at first projected 3.6 percent growth, but has since been lowered to 3 percent. Several reputable firms such as IHS Global Insight have their projections around the 2 – 2.1 percent range. Their record of past projections have been much stronger then the White House’s speculation.
Considering that 2012 is an election year, we could guess that the Obama budget would contain some wild promises, but the released budget was chock full of stretched promises based on non-existent savings.
On Sunday, February 12, 2012, Obama sent his Chief of Staff, Jack Lew, out to demonize the Republican Party as a smoke screen when people began asking why his administration had not passed a budget since his election. Jack Lew lied to every single mainstream media outlet that would welcome his lies. And not ONE network host challenged his bold-faced lies!
MR. GREGORY: So the leadership deficit in Washington has had an impact on what business does in America and certainly our economic outlook. Here’s a stat that a lot of people may not know, but it’s pretty striking. The number of days since Senate Democrats passed a budget is 1,019. Can you just explain as a former budget director, how do you fund the government when there’s no budget?
MR. LEW: Well, you know, one of the things about the United States Senate that I think the American people have realized is that it takes 60, not 50 votes to pass something. And there has been Republican opposition to anything that Senate Democrats have tried to do. So it, it is a challenge in the United States Senate to pass legislation when there’s not that willingness to work together. Congress didn’t do a great job last year. It, it, it drove right to the edge of a cliff on occasion after occasion. I actually think it’s unfair to blame the United States Senate for that. A lot of that was because of the extreme, you know, conservative approach taken by House Republicans.
CROWLEY: I know we’ll want to talk about the tax hikes in a second, but I want to read for our viewers something that Senator Harry Reid, the Democratic majority leader in the U.S. Senate, who said, we do not need to bring a budget to the floor this year. It’s done. We don’t need to do it, talking about last year’s two-year agreement and saying that, you know, so it’s already done.
This budget, I can assure you and you know, because you’ve been in this town for a long time, is going to be attacked as a political document. This is a budget that promises 2 million more jobs if it’s passed, so that come September the president can go out there and say, well, if they’d only passed by budget, we’d have 2 million more jobs, but those darn Republicans are standing in my way, when, in fact, even the Democratic leader in the Senate says, you know what, we don’t need a budget.
LEW: Well, let’s be clear. What Senator Reid is talking about is a fairly narrow point. In order for the Senate to do its annual work on appropriation bills, they need to pass a certain piece of legislation which sets a limit. They did that last year. That’s what he’s talking about.
He’s not saying that they shouldn’t pass a budget. But we also need to be honest. You can’t pass a budget in the Senate of the United States without 60 votes, and you can’t get 60 votes without bipartisan support. So unless Republicans…
Most business in the Senate is subject to filibustering — that is, actions, or even just threats, to talk a bill to death. Filibusters can be overcome by what’s known as a “cloture” vote that shuts off debate and moves a measure toward final consideration. For the Senate to agree to cloture requires 60 votes — a high threshold that many Senate majorities are unable to muster on controversial votes (and, increasingly, even on relatively uncontroversial votes).
However, the filibuster cannot be used to block a budget resolution. That’s because the Budget Act sets out a specific amount of time for debate in the Senate — 50 hours. If a specific amount of debate time is enshrined in the controlling statute, the filibuster is moot. So a simple majority — not 60 votes — is all that’s required to pass a budget resolution.
Indeed, passing a budget resolution by at least 60 votes has become increasingly rare in recent years, according to CRS data. Since 1994, the Senate vote has exceeded that vote threshold just three times, either in the initial vote or on a subsequent vote in which lawmakers consider an identical House-Senate version of the resolution.
More common in recent years are votes where 51 was enough to prevail. In 2009, the Senate even passed the final budget resolution by a 48-45 margin.
“The budget resolution vote is always a partisan affair, and rarely does it gain any minority party support,” said Steve Ellis, a vice president at Taxpayers for Common Sense.
So Lew is clearly wrong to say that “you can’t pass a budget in the Senate of the United States without 60 votes.” As a longtime senior official at OMB and other federal agencies, he should have known better.
The truth is that you need 51 votes to pass a budget. The Democrat Party currently has 53 votes in the Senate. When Obama took over, they had a filibuster-proof Senate and they could have passed ANY budget they wanted. You need to remember that just last year, Obama submitted a budget to a Senate under the control of his own party. It was such an abject disgrace that it went down 97-0 without a SINGLE Senator voting for it.
I know, I know. That was the Republicans Party’s fault, too.

“Simple things you can do to save gas. Make sure that your tires are inflated properly. And getting regular tune ups.”
So next time your feeling down because you can’t pay those skyrocketing gas price, remember that “YES YOU CAN” … and you will … unless we elect a President who will pave the way for increasing the exploration and drilling for America’s abundant supply of fossil fuels, decrease America’s dependence on foreign oil, build “Keystone” pipe lines, and yes, RESPONSIBLY investigate alternative energy.
However, if we get four more years of nonsense and suggestions that consumers “check your tire pressure;” while Obama gives more money to companies Solyndra to flush down the toilet; then we’re pretty much screwed.
Now, let me be completely honest! For America, (as true patriotic, conservative American’s love it) to survive; we must defeat Obama and his party of pathological socialist liars in 2012. Whoever is the Republican nominee must be supported by supporters of the other candidates. And … to finish Jack Lew’s earlier interrupted sentence, unless Republicans can grow a set of balls … and rise up and hold the Democrats responsible for all of their vicious lies, this nation is doomed.
